CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR JANUARY 5, 2004
For the first time in her career, Calvin junior Kristin McDonald has been named
MIAA Player of the Week in women's basketball. A native of Grand Rapids and a
graduate of Grand Rapids West Catholic High School, McDonald scored 39 points
last week in helping lead Calvin to a pair of victories as the Knights extended
their win streak to six games and improved to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the MIAA.
In a 75-56 victory at conference rival Alma Wednesday afternoon, McDonald
poured in a career-high 28 points including a 5-for-8 performance from beyond
the three-point arc and a 7-for-8 showing at the free throw line.
She followed with 11 points and three assists in a 55-50 victory at Tri-State
University Saturday afternoon.
On the week, McDonald was 12-of-31 from the floor, 6-of-14 from three-point
range and 7-of-9 at the free throw line. She was also credited with four
rebounds, seven assists, two steals and one blocked shot.
In overall games, McDonald is currently second in the MIAA in assists-per-game
(4.09), third in scoring (14.8 ppg) and three-point field goal percentage
(.446) and second in made three-point field goals per-game (3.0).
Calvin returns to action on Tuesday night when it hosts St. Mary's in an MIAA
contest at 7:30 p.m. at the Calvin Fieldhouse. On Saturday, Calvin will travel
to MIAA foe Kalamazoo for a game scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at the
Anderson Athletic Center.
