CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR NOVEMBER 16, 2003

    MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING

Calvin sent both of its swim teams to a four-team quadrangular held at the
University of Michigan that also included teams from Case Western Reserve,
Denison and Kalamazoo College Saturday night.

The quadrangular was separated into separate dual meets with each school going
head-to-head. There was no diving competition at the meet.

When the evening was complete, the Calvin women had posted a 2-1 dual meet
record, defeating Case Western Reserve and Kalamazoo while falling to national
power Denison. In the men's competition, Calvin was defeated by all three
schools. The Calvin women are now 4-2 in dual meet competition this year while
    the Calvin men are 2-4.

A highlight once again was the performance of freshman Rebekah Weima (Grand
Rapids Christian HS) who shattered her own school record in the 200 freestyle
with a first place and NCAA III A' Cut qualifying time of 1:53.25, lopping
three-tenths of a second off her previous school mark set a week ago at a dual
meet hosted by Wheaton College (IL). Her time in the 200 freestyle is the
fastest in NCAA III women's swimming so far this year. Weima also took first
place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.92.

Sophomore Abby Johnson (Grand Haven HS) also had a big evening as she took
first place in the 200 butterfly with an NCAA III B' Cut qualifying time of
2:11.59 while also taking second in the 200 IM with a season-best time of
    2:13.14.

In the men's competition, Calvin was led by junior Peter Boumgarden
(Naperville, IL) who recorded the best time of the evening in the 200 IM
(2:00.42) while taking second in the 200 butterfly (2:00.88).

Both Calvin teams return to action this Saturday when they host rival Hope in
MIAA dual meets at 1:00 p.m. at Calvin's Bergsma Natatorium.
