CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2003

    WOMEN'S SOCCER

With one game left in the regular season, the Calvin women's soccer team will
get a chance to play for an MIAA Championship and a berth in next week's NCAA
    III Tournament.

The Knights pulled into a tie for first place in the MIAA standings with Hope
thanks to an 8-0 victory over visiting Adrian Tuesday afternoon at a
rain-soaked Calvin Field while Albion defeated visiting Hope 2-0.

With one game left to play in the MIAA season, Calvin and Hope are now tied for
first place in the MIAA standings at 10-2-1 in conference play. Calvin will
host St. Mary's Saturday afternoon with Hope hosting Olivet. Both games will
start at noon. If Calvin can defeat St. Mary's, the Knights (12-5-1 overall)
would assure themselves of at least a share of their first MIAA title since
1997 and their first NCAA III Tournament berth since 1998. Calvin holds a
tie-breaker edge over Hope for the MIAA's automatic bid to the NCAA III
Tournament by virtue of Calvin's 2-0-0 record against third place Albion with
Hope finishing 1-1-0 against the Britons this fall.

After opening the season 0-3-1 including 0-2-1 in the MIAA, Calvin has won 11
of its last 12 games as well as its last 10 conference games.

In its victory over Adrian, Calvin took a 5-0 halftime lead on first half goals
from senior Dana Haan (Lynden, WA), freshman Sarah Weesies (Kalamazoo Christian
HS), sophomore Kara Zuidema (Escondido, CA) and a pair of goals from freshman
Jill Capel (Unity Christian HS). With just over 17 minutes left in the first
half, the game was halted for nearly 20 minutes because of lightning strikes in
    the area.
Senior Lindsay Campbell (Gull Lake HS) then scored her first goal of the season
midway through the second half as she booted in a corner kick from senior Sarah
Derrico (Cannondale, PA). An own goal by Adrian allowed the Knights to take a
7-0 lead with Weesies closing out the scoring with her second goal of the game,
as she converted an unassisted rush with just over 10 minutes left in
    regulation.

Capel and Weesies are now tied for the team lead in goals with 18 apiece.
Weesies also collected an assist on the afternoon to bring her season total to
13, one short of matching the Calvin single-season record held by Tracy Veurink
(1990) and Larissa Onderlinde (2001). Like Weesies, Onderlinde is also a
graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School.

Derrico finished with two assists on the afternoon with Capel, freshman
Jennifer Evans (Derry, PA) and Lindsay Campbell also collecting an assist on
    the day.
Calvin held a 19-3 shots at goal advantage with freshman Lisa Campbell (Gull
Lake HS) and Megan VanderVliet (Oakville, ON) combining on the shutout in goal
    with VanderVliet posting two saves.

Calvin has now posted seven shutouts on the season -- all of which have come in
    MIAA play.
