CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR OCTOBER 15, 2003

    WOMEN'S SOCCER
Angola, IN * Taking an MIAA break, Calvin (7-4-1) traveled to the home of Tri-State (7-5-2) University where it emerged victorious 4-0. Calvin extended its current win streak to six games after winning only one of its first six. The Knights have also only given up three goals through the duration of the win streak.
Calvin scored early and often in the first half with all four of its goals coming before halftime. Starting the scoring was reigning MIAA Offensive Player of the Week, freshman Jill Capel (Unity Christian), who netted her first in the 9th minute. Capel's goal was assisted by freshman Leah Scholten (Unity Christian). Less than four minutes later, sophomore Kara Zuidema (Escondido Calvin Christian) put the Knights up 2-0 with an unassisted goal. In the 29th minute, freshman Sarah Weesies (Kalamazoo Christian) scored her 13th goal of the season to put the Knights up 3-0. Capel added another goal in the 38th minute, assisted by Zuidema, to put the score where it would end at 4-0.
Every Calvin player saw the playing field with goalies Lisa Campbell (Gull Lake) and Megan VanderViliet (Oakville Trafalgar) splitting the shutout. Campbell made two saves, while VanderViliet faced no shots on goal.
Calvin owned the shot category by taking 30 shots and keeping Tri-State to only five.
Calvin resumes MIAA action this Saturday when the Alma Scots come to town with the game set to start at noon.
