MORE MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD NOTES FROM THE AQ TWILIGHT INVITATIONAL
MAY 7, 2003
*Calvin freshman Missy Smith (Grand Rapids Christian HS) took first place in
the women's pole vault (11-0)
*Calvin senior Ben Talsma (Western Michigan Christian HS) took first place in
the men's javelin (173-9).
*Calvin junior Sarah Weeda (Manhattan, MT) took fourth in the women's long jump
with a career-best mark of 17-1. 2001 Calvin graduate Lindsay Mulder won the
event with a mark of 18-11 1/2. Weeda was also second in the triple jump with
a mark of 34-1.
*The winning throw by Meckes in the men's discus was actually 177-2 1/2, not
177-2. The second place throw by Frens in the women's shot put was actually
42-6 1/2, not 42-6.
*In the women's 4 x 400, Calvin took second in 3:51.91, not first. Grand
Valley took first place with a winning time of 3:48.12.
*Senior Annie VanderLaan took first place in the women's 100 meter hurdles
(15.05).
*Sophomore Sue Abbring took first place in the women's 400 meters (58.46).
