CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR MARCH 2, 2003 (Part Two)
WOMEN'S TENNIS
HOLLAND * For the first time since 1993 and for the just the third time in the last 22 years, Calvin was victorious in an MIAA dual match against Hope as the Knights edged the Flying Dutch 6-3 Wednesday afternoon.
Hope captured two of three doubles flights but the Knights took five of six in singles competition. In four of Calvin's singles victories, the Knights had to overcome first-set defeats.
Picking up singles victories for Calvin were senior Sally Skodinski (South Bend, IN) at No. 1 singles; freshman Amy Zeilstra (Oak Brook, IL) at No. 2 singles; sophomore Rachel Pater (South Christian HS) at No. 3 singles; freshman Kim Bosscher (Calvin Christian HS) at No. 4 singles and junior Renee VanDommelen (Sheboygan, WI) at No. 6 singles. Calvin's lone doubles point came in No. 1 doubles as Skodinski and Zeilstra came up with a victory in straight sets.
A year ago, Hope edged Calvin 5-4 in an MIAA dual match.
Calvin is now 4-2 overall and 1-0 in MIAA dual match competition. The Knights return to action this weekend when they compete in a pair of non-conference matches at Wheaton (IL). Calvin will take on host Wheaton Friday night and then face Olivet Nazarene Saturday afternoon.
