CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR MARCH 18, 2003

SOFTBALL (Written by Calvin Sports Information Student Assistant Ross Weener on
    assignment in Orlando, Florida)

    Calvin 5, Millikin University 0

Riding the strong right arm of freshman pitcher Jeanne Cole (Mason County
Eastern) Calvin won its third straight game 5-0. The victory also extended the
Knights streak of holding the opposition scoreless to 21 innings.

In what has been a trademark for this year's Calvin team, the Knights jumped on
top early, scoring two runs in the first inning. Jeanne Cole started the inning
drawing a walk and proceeded to steal second base. Her efforts were rewarded as
she plated on a single by her sister Keri that ripped through the right side of
the infield. After being sacrificed over to second base Keri was able to score
on a line-drive single by sophomore Lea Bareman (Unity).

After being supported by two runs Jeanne took over, allowing only five hits
over the next six innings and raising her record to 1-1 on the season.

Bareman led the Calvin offense, going 3-3 from the plate and collecting one
RBI. The Knights scored five runs on eight hits and left six runners stranded
on base. Five players collected one hit including: J. Cole, K. Cole, junior
Trisha Balkema (Illiana Christian), freshman Erinn Voss (Chicago Christian),
and senior Becky Austen (Pembroke, Ontario).

Calvin 3, Fairleigh Dickinson Madison University 2 (eight innings)

Calvin extended it winning streak to four games with a 3-2 victory over
Fairleigh Dickinson Madison University in eight innings. The win ended the
Knights impressive defensive stand at 22 innings of holding the opposition to
no runs. After giving up 14 runs in the first two games, Calvin has buckled
down and rattled off three straight shutouts and has only given up two runs in
    the last four outings.

Five strong innings by sophomore Kara Van Kooten (Grace Christian, Anchorage,
Alaska) earned her a no decision as fellow classmate Rachelle Heyboer (Fremont)
came on in relief in the sixth inning in a 2-2 ballgame. Van Kooten gave up
only six hits and two earned runs over that period, while Heyboer gave up one
hit and struck out three in the two innings she pitched.

After falling in the hole 2-1, Calvin came out and scored two runs in the top
of the fourth inning. Fairleigh Dickinson would respond with a run of its own
in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game, ending all scoring for the
rest of regulation softball. With Bareman placed at second due to the
international tiebreaker rule, freshman Alison Dykstra (Illiana Christian)
sacrificed Bareman over to third with a great drag bunt to the right side.
Austen, who had already amassed a 3-3 performance, was intentionally walked,
and stole second. Freshman Jill Scholten (Holland Christian) came through with
the winning play, a groundout that scored Bareman from third base.

Calvin is now 4-2 on the season and will break until Thursday when it plays two
morning games at 8:30 and 10:30 pm.

    BASEBALL

FORT MYERS, FL -- Calvin slipped back to the .500 mark with a pair of losses to
Augsburg College of Minnesota Saturday, falling 8-7 and 6-4. Freshman Brandon
Oldenbroek (Unity Christian HS) started game one while freshman Ben Buikema
(Lakewood-Lake Odessa HS) started game two.

No other details were made available.

Calvin returns to action against Suffolk University of Massachusetts Wednesday
morning at 9:00 a.m. Suffolk advanced to the NCAA III Tournament a year ago
and finished with a 27-14 overall record.
