    Emily Beard Named to All-MIAA 2nd Team

    GRAND RAPIDS – Calvin College senior Emily Beard has been named to the
    All-MIAA 2nd team in women’s basketball.

    A native of Lathrup Village and a graduate of Southfield Christian High
    School, Beard is receiving All-MIAA second team honors for the first time in
    her career. A 6-0 forward, Beard averaged 9.3 points and 8.0 rebounds a game
    this year as she the Knights in both categories. In 14 conference games, Beard
    averaged 10.3 points and 7.2 rebounds a game, finishing tied for 10th in the
    MIAA scoring race and sixth on the league rebounding charts. Beard also
    finished tied for fifth in blocked shots with 14.

    During the year, Beard had five double-double performances and finished her
    career with 12 double-doubles. In addition, she became the sixth player in
    Calvin women’s basketball history to crack the 500 rebound plateau and
    finished her career tied with Pam Wubben for fourth on the Calvin career list
    with 547 rebounds.

    Calvin senior Tricia Dyk and junior Kim Wolthuis also received honorable
    mention recognition from the MIAA coaches.

    A 5-6 point guard, Dyk is from Grand Haven and is a graduate of Western
    Michigan Christian High School. She averaged 8.7 points, 2.5 assists and 2.5
    steals-per-game. She also led the MIAA for the second straight year in steals
    with 39 steals in 14 conference games while finishing tied for 10th in the MIAA
    in assists-per-game. Dyk closed out her career as the all-time Calvin leader
    in steals with 273 and fifth on the Calvin career list in assists with 301. A
    four-year starter at the point guard position, Dyk played and started in all
    107 games of her collegiate career.

    Wolthuis is from Alto and is a graduate of South Christian High School. A 5-7
    wing player, Wolthuis averaged 9.0 points and 2.7 rebounds a game. In
    conference action, Wolthuis finished seventh in the MIAA in free throw
    percentage with an 80.0 percent clip. In overall games, Wolthuis had a
    team-leading 77.2 percent free throw clip.

    Calvin finished the year with a 15-11 overall record to record its first
    winning season since its 1999-2000 campaign. The Knights also finished tied
    for fifth in the MIAA regular season standings with a 6-8 conference mark.
    Calvin closed out its season last week with a 72-69 loss to Albion in the in
    first round of the MIAA Tournament.
