    CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR NOV. 7, 2002

    MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

    The MIAA pre-season coaches' polls for men's and women's basketball were
    announced today and the Calvin men's basketball team has been selected to repeat
    as league champion while the Calvin women's basketball team has been picked to
    finish fifth.

    In the men's poll, Calvin received four of a possible seven first place votes
    while Hope received the remainding three first place votes. Calvin captured the
    MIAA regular season title last year while Hope claimed the MIAA Tournament
    title. Both teams are ranked nationally in pre-season Top 25 polls by
    D3hoops.com, DIII News and Street & Smith's Magazine. Calvin finished the
    2001-02 season with a 20-7 overall record and a 9-3 conference mark.

    Calvin and Hope were followed by Kalamazoo, Albion, Adrian, Olivet and Alma.

    In the women's poll, three-time defending MIAA champion Hope was picked to win
    again as the Flying Dutch collected seven first place votes. Hope captured both
    the MIAA regular season and tournament championship last year. Kalamazoo and
    Albion each received on first place vote with Kalamazoo selected to finish
    second and Albion third. They were followed by Adrian, Calvin, Alma, St. Mary's
    and Olivet.

    Calvin finished the 2001-02 campaign with a 12-13 overall record and a fourth
    place MIAA mark of 7-7.

    The Calvin men's basketball team is scheduled to open its season on November 22
    when it hosts Grace Bible College in a first round game of the Calvin Tip-Off
    Tournament. The Calvin women's basketball team is slated to open its season on
    November 22 when it takes on Point Park College of Pennsylvania in a first round
    game of a tournament hosted by Carnegie Mellon University.

    WOMEN'S SOCCER

    The 2002 MIAA women's soccer campaign came to a close Tuesday afternoon with
    Albion securing its third consecutive MIAA title with a 4-0 win over Olivet.
    The Britons receive the MIAA's automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament for the
    third straight year.

    Calvin finished third in the MIAA standings with a 9-3-2 conference mark.
    Calvin senior forward Tricia Dyk finished as the MIAA scoring champion for the
    second straight year, collecting 44 points on the strength of 17 goals and 10
    assists in 14 conference games. Calvin finished the year with an overall record
    of 12-6-2 as it reached the double-digit plateau in victories for the 14th
    straight year.
