    CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR FRIDAY, OCT. 18, 2002

    VOLLEYBALL

    ADRIAN –

    Calvin’s volleyball team traveled to visit the Adrian Bulldogs in tonight’s only MIAA match up. The Knights downed the Bulldogs in five games, 25-30, 30-27, 28-30, 30-24, 15-12. Calvin moves to 18-6 (9-3 MIAA) and Adrian goes to 18-9 (6-5 MIAA).

    Sophomore Kara Kuipers (Unity Christian) led the Knights by putting 20 kills to the ground. She was closely followed by senior Melissa Pell (Fremont), who smashed 18 kills. Pell also had 6 blocks (2 solo) and Kuipers blocked 5 (1 solo).

    Senior Laura Tucker (Holland Christian) set the Knights up for the win with 64 assists and 4 serve aces. She was fedl by junior Trisha Balkema (Illiana Christian) who led the team with 37 digs. Senior Jessica Huisjen (Lansing Christian) added with 15 digs and sophomore Kristen DeGroot (Central Valley Christian) compiled 14.

    Calvin’s next action comes this Tuesday evening when they will again travel, and will visit the Albion Britons. The match is set to start at 6:30 p.m.

    Tomorrow’s MIAA matches include Hope at Kalamazoo beginning at 11:00 a.m. and Albion at St. Mary’s, set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
