CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR SATURDAY September 28, 2002

    WOMEN'S SOCCER

Calvin finished off an impressive week by downing Alma College on Saturday by a
score or 4-0. Earlier in the week Calvin defeated the regionally-ranked Albion
Britons 4-3 in overtime. With Hope's 3-2 overtime victory over Saturday, the
Knights move into a first place tie with the Flying Dutch with a 3-1 conference
    mark.

The Knights and Scots played to a first half tie before Calvin broke loose for
four second half goals. Calvin struck twice in a two-minute span as senior
Tricia Dyk (Western Michigan Christian) stole a pass at midfield and went the
distance to notch her seventh goal of the season. Calvin's second goal came off
the feet of senior midfielder Stephanie Kooima (Unity Christian) as she garnered
a pass from Dyk and deposited the ball into the side of the goal at the 59:33
mark. Calvin's third goal of the game was scored by Dyk on an assist from
freshman Noell Berghuis (Unity Christian). The speedy Berghuis led a strong rush
up the right side and after beating an Alma defender to the inside, she slid the
ball to Dyk, who made no mistake in converting the goal. Calvin's last goal was
scored by sophomore back Kristen Carlson (Sante Fe Christian) on a penalty kick
with only 1:22 left in the match

With her two goals and one assist on the afternoon, Dyk boosted her career
total to 64 goals, 35 assists and 163 points. Dyk is second on the all-time
Calvin list in goals and points and just two assists shy of the second place
mark held by Kristin Penzotti-Mast. In addition, Dyk now has career MIAA
(conference games only) total of 46 goals, 27 assists and 119 points. Dyk is
now fifth on the all-time MIAA list in goals, eighth in assists and tied for
    fifth in points.

Calvin returns to action on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Olivet College
    for a 4:00 p.m. matchup.

minutes left in regulation, Veldhouse sent a cross from the right wing into the
Alma box. Calvin junior David DeBoer (Western Michigan Christian High School)
was able to race underneath the ball and head it into the back of the net for
