    REPORT FOR MAY 3 (Part 3)

    MEN'S TENNIS

    Calvin closed out the MIAA Championships with a third place point total of 39.5
    points to finish third in the final league standings. The third place finish is
    a two-spot improvement over Calvin's 2001 finish. Kalamazoo captured the MIAA
    team championship for an unprecedented 64th straight year.

    Calvin took third at three singles flights led by freshman Kevin VanHaitsma
    (Unity Christian) who took third at number-one singles with a 6-2, 7-6 victory
    over Alma's Matt Piper in the flight one third place match.

    Junior Tom Zeilstra (Hinsdale, IL) also took third at number-two singles,
    defeating Albion's Brian Reed 6-2, 6-1 in the third place match. At number-five
    singles, junior Nate Kraai (Grand Rapids Christian) was a winner over Albion's
    Zak Eskau 6-0, 6-2 in the third place match. Junior Jon Meyer (Orange, CA) also
    reached the third place match at number-three singles but fell to Albion's Matt
    Brady 6-4, 6-3.

    In doubles, VanHaitsma and Zeilstra took third at number-one singles, defeating
    Albion's number-one doubles tandem 7-6, 4-6, 6-2. At number-three doubles,
    Calvin's team of Kraai and junior Dave Bartels (Kalamazoo Christian) defeated
    Alma's tandem 6-4, 6-2 in the third place match.

    VanHaitsma was then named to the All-MIAA 1st team while Zeilstra was named to
    the All-MIAA 2nd team.

    WOMEN'S TENNIS

    Calvin closed out the MIAA Championships with a fourth place total of 62
    points, allowing the Knights to move into a fourth place tie with Hope in the
    final league standings. St. Mary's repeated as MIAA champion with a first place
    total of 93 points.

    In singles play, junior Sally Skodinski (South Bend, IN) reached the
    championship finals in flight one before falling to Meaghan Clark of Kalamazoo
    6-2, 6-3 in the final. In flight two singles, freshman Erica Baic (Traverse
    City) took fifth place while freshman Rachel Pater (South Christian) took fourth
    at flight three singles, falling to to Kalamazoo's Caitlin Kelly 6-2, 6-2 in the
    third place match. At flight four singles, sophomore Renee VanDommelen
    (Sheboygan, WI) took fifth, defeating Alma's Sarah Keller 6-2, 6-2 in the fifth
    place match. Senior Trisha Plaisier (Kalamazoo Christian) then took third at
    flight five singles, defeated Kalamazoo's Jessa Margoni 6-2, 6-2 in the third
    place match.

    Freshman Laura Mans (Holland Christian) was also a winner in the third place
    match at flight six singles, defeating Sara Sheline of Adrian 6-1, 6-1.

    In doubles, Skodinski and Baic took third at flight one doubles while Mans and
    Pater took third at flight two doubles. Plaisier and VanDommelen added a fifth
    place finish at flight three doubles.

    Skodinski was then named to the All-MIAA 1st team for the first time in her
    career while Baic was named to the All-MIAA 2nd team.
