    WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

ALMA, MI - Calvin picked up its first victory at Alma since 1999 and snapped a
three-game losing streak in the process as the Knights pulled out a 71-69
overtime victory at Alma Wednesday evening.

Junior guard Tricia Dyk (Western Michigan Christian) gave Calvin a 70-69 lead
on a jumper with 39 seconds left in overtime. Junior center Emily Bead
(Southfield Christian) then corralled a missed Alma shot with four seconds left
in the clock and helped ice the game with a free throw with three-tenths of a
    second left on the clock.

Alma (9-9 overall, 2-5 MIAA) led throughout the first half but a 10-6 Calvin
run to end the half allowed the Knights to close to within a point at 32-31 at
    intermission.

The lead then changed hands six times in the second half with the Scots
building a seven-point lead at 47-40 with 14:38 left on the clock and then at
54-47 with 11:24 left in the half.

Calvin (8-9 overall, 3-4 MIAA) then ripped off nine unanswered points with Dyk
accounting for five points and senior forward Tara Bergsma (Calvin Christian)
adding a three-point play in the run. Trailing 61-59 with under three minutes
left to play, Calvin came back to tie the game at 61-61 on a layup by Bergsma
with 2:23 to go and Dyk followed with a pair of free throws at the 1:41 mark to
put the Knights up 63-61. Alma then tied the game at 63-63 on a jumper by Eryn
Mercer with 1:02 to go and had a chance to win the game but misfired on a pair
of shots in the closing seconds.

In overtime, Alma took a 67-64 lead in the first 1:09 of the extra session but
a bucket by Bergsma and a bucket by Beard lifted the Knights into a 68-67 lead
with 2:09 to go. Mercer then canned a jumper at the 1:05 mark to put the Scots
up 69-68 before Dyk put the Knights up to stay on her jumper with 39 seconds
    left on the clock.

Dyk finished the contest with a game-high 25 points, finishing two points
short of a career-high. Dyk also collected eight rebounds, five assists and
three steals. Bergsma was also huge for the Knights with a career-high 19
points off the bench while Beard has 12 points and six rebounds. Sophomore
center Andrea MacDonald (Allendale) was also a big catalyst off the bench for
the Knights as she notched career-highs in points and rebounds with nine points
and 10 boards in a reserve role. Of Calvin's 71 points, 30 came from its
    reserves.

Alma was led in scoring by Janelle Twietmeyer who popped in 19 points
including four three-point field goals while Shelly Ulfig had 18 points and a
game-high 17 rebounds. Karen Hall also picked up a double-double for the Scots
with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

three-point range with Dyk accounting for all four of Calvin's three-point
field goals. Alma shot 42.9 percent overall including 50 percent (7-of-14)
from three-point range. Alma outrebounded Calvin 46-37 but committed 18
