WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Calvin kicked off the UW-Whitewater tournament with a pair off four game
defeats Friday night, losing to UW-River Falls 30-32, 30-22, 30-25, 32-30 and
three-time defending national champion Central College (IA) 30-25, 30-24. 27-30,
30-20. The Knights will play the remaining two games of the round robin
tournament tomorrow against Simpson College and host Whitewater.
In the game against UW-River Falls Calvin received a big offensive effort from
junior outside hitter Cassie Christopher as she amassed 17 kills Sophomore
Trisha Balkema and freshman Kristin DeGroot each added 14 kills with Balkema
picking up 22 digs and DeGroot tallying 16 digs and four blocks. Senior setter
Sara Ahrenholz dished out 61 assists.
Christopher continued her big night with an impressive 20 kills against Central
College. DeGroot tossed in 14 kills and two service aces while Balkema garnered
11 digs. Junior middle hitter Melissa Pell added four blocks.
Calvin will continue action on Saturday with matches against Simpson at 12 PM
and Whitewater at 2 PM.
WOMEN'S GOLF
Calvin placed 7th with a team score of 439 at the first day of the two day MIAA
championships. St. Mary's College is hosting the 36 hole event at Brookwood Golf
Course in Buchanan, Michigan. Albion took first with a team score of 348,
followed by St. Mary's with 353, Hope 368 and Alma 372. Play will continue
tomorrow morning with the final 18 holes.
