    PAIRINGS SET FOR MIAA MEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS

    The pairings for the MIAA Tournament semifinals are set after three
    first round games Wednesday night.

    Second-seeded Hope (16-9) will face sixth-seeded Adrian (13-12) in the
    first semifinal game Friday night at the Fieldhouse. The Hope/Adrian
    game will begin at 6:00 pm. Top-seeded Calvin (20-4) will meet
    fourth-seeded Olivet (12-11) in the second semifinal Friday night. The
    Calvin/Olivet game will begin 20 minutes after the completion of the
    first semifinal.

    Friday's winners will meet in the MIAA Tournament Championship game
    Saturday night at 7:30 pm at the Fieldhouse.

    Hope advanced to the MIAA Tournament semifinals with an 84-70 first
    round win over Alma Wednesday evening. Adrian advanced with a 73-71
    upset in overtime at third-seeded Albion Wednesday. It marked just the
    fourth time in MIAA history that a host school was defeated in the first
    round. Olivet advanced to Friday's semifinals with a 95-81 win over
    Kalamazoo. Olivet will be making its first-ever trip to the MIAA
    Tournament semifinals.

    Friday's game between Calvin and Olivet will mark the fourth time that
    the two schools have met in the MIAA Tournament in men's basketball.

    Tubergen named to Verizon Academic All-District IV Second Team

    GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Calvin College senior Josh Tubergen has been named to
    the Verizon Academic All-District IV men's basketball second team in the
    college division. The college division of the Verizon Academic
    All-America program includes NCAA II, NCAA III and NAIA schools. The
    Verizon Academic All-District and All-America teams are selected by the
    College Sports Information Director's Association of America (CoSIDA).
    To be eligible for nomination, a player must be a starter or a key
    reserve with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20.

    A native of Zeeland and a graduate of Holland Christian High School,
    Tubergen is receiving Verizon Academic All-District honors for the first
    time in his career.

    A 6-7 center, Tubergen is averaging 9.9 points and 6.3 rebounds a game
    to rank third on the Calvin men's basketball team in both categories.
    He also leads the Knights in blocked shots with 38 blocks for an average
    of 1.7 blocks-per-game. Since moving into the starting lineup on January
    20 in a 95-85 win over Hope, Tubergen has averaged 15.0 points and 8.0
    rebounds a game while connecting on just under 60 percent of his field
    goal attempts. During that nine-game span, he has notched a pair of
    double-double performances as he had 14 points and 10 rebounds in a
    115-88 win over Olivet January 27 and came back with a career-high 23
    points and 10 rebounds in a 118-81 win over Orchard Lake St. Mary's
    February 3. In league games, Tubergen finished tied for ninth in scoring
    average (12.2); third in field goal percentage (.541); fourth in rebound
    average (7.4) and second in blocked shots (21).

    A secondary education major with an emphasis in chemistry and biology,
    Tubergen carries a 3.83 grade point average. Tubergen is a seven-time
    member of the Calvin Dean's List and a three-time member of the MIAA
    Academic Honor Roll. He is currently student teaching at Calvin
    Christian High School.

    Tubergen will don his Calvin uniform again Friday night when the Knights
    face Olivet in the MIAA Tournament semifinals at 8:00 pm at the Calvin
    Fieldhouse. Calvin is 20-4 overall and ranked ninth nationally and
    fourth in the Great Lakes Region. The Knights are the defending MIAA
    Tournament champions. Calvin recently captured its third consecutive
    MIAA regular season title and 25th overall league crown as the Knights
    finished 10-2 in the MIAA regular season, two games ahead of second
    place Hope.
