MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
Calvin improved to 6-0 overall and to 3-0 in the MIAA dual meet season
with a 136-45 victory over Alma Wednesday night at the Bergsma
Natatorium.
Calvin took first place in 11 of the 13 events Wednesday with freshman
Brad White (Dayton, OH) and sophomore A.J. Penninga (Grand Rapids
Christian) coming up with double-victories in the swimming events.
White was victorious in the 50 freestyle (22.08) and 100 backstroke
(55.76) while Penninga took the 400 IM (4:20.27) and 500 freestyle
(4:53.30). Other individual winners for Calvin included junior Chris
Veltman (Duarte, CA) in the 1,000 freestyle (10:16.36); freshman Dan
Hekman (Calimesa, CA) in the 200 freestyle (1:49.43); sophomore Ryan
Johnson (Grand Haven) in the 100 butterfly (54.87) and junior Jordan
Zacharia (Annondale, VA) in the 100 freestyle (50.18).
In addition, sophomore Brian Koster (Grand Rapids Christian) won both
diving competitions, scoring 205.35 on the one-meter board and 230.25 on
the three-meter board.
Calvin's 200 medley relay team of Johnson, sophomore Kevin Katerberg
(Dayton, OH), junior Brian Linn (Indianapolis, IN) and White took first
place with a time of 1:41.96.
Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Kalamazoo for a
1:00 pm conference dual meet.

Calvin improved to 5-2 overall and to 4-0 in the MIAA dual meet season
with a 146-88 victory over Alma Wednesday night at the Bergsma
Natatorium.
Calvin took first place in 10 of the 13 events with freshman Sara
TerHaar (Bradenton, FL) and senior Liesje Konyndyk (Grand Rapids
Christian) winning a pair of events. TerHaar won the one-meter (221.35)
and three-meter (194.20) diving competitions while Konyndyk won the 200
freestyle (2:02.47) and 500 freestyle (5:28.41).
Other individual winners for Calvin included sophomore Jenny Los
(Holland Christina) in the 1,000 freestyle (11:15.11); junior Kate
Conrad (Calvin Christian) in the 50 freestyle (25.59); sophomore Katie
Nagelkirk (Holland Christian) in the 100 freestyle (54.40) sophomore
Anne Kuiper (Houghton) in the 400 IM (4:49.83) and sophomore Allison
Gliesman (Macomb) in the 100 backstroke (1:07.04).
Calvin's 200 medley relay team of Nagelkirk, sophomore Anne Kuiper
(Houghton), freshman Mara McQuin (Oak Park, IL) and junior Erin Kloostra
(Grand Rapids Christian) also took first place with a time of 1:55.01.
