    CLARKE COLLEGE HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT
                            PREVIEW

Calvin (3-4) will return to action on December
    27 when it
opens play at the eight-team Clarke College
    Holiday
                            Tournament in Dubuque, Iowa.

Calvin will face a Division III opponent in its
    first round game
as the Knights take on Wisconsin-Platteville
    (4-4) at 2:00 pm
(EST). The tournament will open on the 26th
    with host Clarke
(2-5) taking on Mount Mercy (4-9) at 7:00 pm
    (EST). The
remainder of the first round games will be
    played on the 27th
with Iowa Wesleyan (1-9) taking on Viterbo of
    Iowa (9-3)
                            and Trinity-International (5-7) taking on
    Concordia of
Nebraska (8-3). Viterbo is the top-seed while
    Concordia is
the second seed. Viterbo won the tournament
    championship
two years ago and has a 6-3 liftime record in
    the tournament.
Calvin will be making its first appearance in
    the Clarke
                            Holiday Tournament.

Under the direction of head coach Kim Gall, the
    Knights
opened the year by winning three of their first
    four games but
have since lost three straight, falling to
    North Central (IL),
Olivet Nazarene and Cornerstone. A year ago,
    Calvin used a
veteran look in its starting lineup as the
    Knights were led by
four senior starters. This year, Calvin is
    without a senior on its
roster for the first time since the 1985-86
    season.

Calvin will be competing in its third
    tournament of the year as
the Knights opened the season by winning the
                            Wisconsin-Lutheran Tip-Off Tournament which
    included a
55-48 first round win over Clarke. The Knights
    also finished
second at North Central's Pat Pasko Memorial
    Tournament
                            December 1 & 2.

Calvin is led by sophomore tri-captain Jennifer
    Plakmeyer
(Calvin Christian) who averages 13.9 points and
    4.1 rebounds
a game. She is also averaging 3.8
    assists-per-game and is
connecting on 35.3 percent of her field goal
    attempts.
Plakmeyer is currently seventh in the MIAA in
    scoring
average; third in assists-per-game; eighth in
    free throw
percentage (.808) and ninth in three-point
    field goal
                            percentage, and steals-per-game (1.9).
    Plakmeyer was
named the tournament MVP at the
    Wisconsin-Lutheran
Tip-Off Tournament and was named to the
    all-tournament
team at the Pat Pasko Memorial Tournament.

Plakmeyer is one of several Calvin players
    among the MIAA
                            statistical leaders. Sophomore Emily Mejeur
    (Kalamazoo
Christian) is currently eighth in three-point
    field goal
percentage (.378) while sophomore Emily Beard
    (Southfield
Christian) is second in blocked shots-per-game
    (1.3) and
                            freshman Andrea MacDonald (Allendale) eighth
    (0.7). In
addition, Calvin sophomore Tricia Dyk (Western
    Michigan
Christian) leads the MIAA in steals-per-game
    (3.3) while
junior Tara Bergsma (Calvin Christian) is
    second (3.1). Dyk
                            was named to Wisconsin-Lutheran All-Tournament
    team
while Beard was an all-tournament selection at
    the Pat Pasko
                            Tournament.

                            Wisconsin-Plattville is coming off of a 70-61
    defeat to Viterbo
on December 15 which snapped a two-game Pioneer
    win
streak. Plateville is led in scoring by senior
    guard Laurie
Buechel who averages 18.1 points a game. Junior
    forward
Crystal Stietz is also in double-figures,
    averaging 12.3 points
and 5.1 rebounds a game while 6-1 freshman
    center Tifanie
Brady averages 10.6 points and 6.3 rebounds a
    game.

The Clarke Holiday Tournament will conclude on
    December
30 with the championship game scheduled for
    6:00 pm (EST)
and the consolation game slated for 2:00 pm
    (EST). The fifth
place game will be played on December 29 at
    2:00 pm (EST)
with the seventh place game set to be played on
    the 29th at
                            10:00 am (EST).
