             WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The Calvin women were handed their first lost of the young
    season by a talented
Aquinas team by a score of 67-58.

The key to the Saint's victory was solid rebounding and good
    free throw shooting.
The Saints out rebounded the Knights 33-26 while they also
    bettered the Knights
from the line as they shot 16-22 for 73 percent while Calvin
    was 5-11 for 46
             percent.

Calvin hung with the Saints throughout the first half as the
    Knights capitalized on
Aquinas turnovers to keep the score close. Calvin shot 12-28
    from the floor and
went into halftime down by a score of 30-27. Trailing 37-30
    early in the second
half, Calvin used a 17-6 run capped of by a Tara Bergsma layup
    to take a 47-43
lead. However over the next eight minutes Aquinas engineered a
    run of 18-6 to
             take a 61-51 lead.

Aquinas was able to pull away in the second half with good
    ball control and a tough
full-court press. Spearheading the Aquinas defensive press and
    offensive attack
were Ronda and Renee Bolitho. Renee poured in 16 points along
    with 4 rebounds
and 4 four steals while Ronda had 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 2
    steals.

Calvin was led by sophomores Tricia Dyk and Emily Mejeur as
    each player turned
in career scoring-highs as Mejeur sparked Calvin off the bench
    with 12 points, all
from behind the arc. Dyk, the starting shooting guard had 11
    points, 4 assists, and 4
steals. Also chipping in for the Knights were sophomore Emily
    Beard with 10
points and junior Tara Bergsma with 7 points and 4 rebounds.

Calvin will return to action this weekend as it travels to
    North Central College in
Naperville, IL to take part in the four-team Pat Pasko
    Memorial Tournament.
Calvin will open the tournament Friday in a first round game
    against Webster of
Missouri at 6 pm (EST) while host North Central will face
    Anderson (IN).
Saturday's championship game is slated for 5 pm with the
    consolation scheduled for
3 pm. Calvin has captured the championship on its two prior
    trips to the Pat Pasko
             Tourney.
