Foltice named MIAA Player of the Week
GRAND RAPIDS, MI - For the second time in his collegiate career, Bryan
Foltice has been named MIAA Player of the Week.
A sophomore guard at Calvin, Foltice was named the tournament MVP of
the Old Kent Classic this past weekend as he led the Knights to
victories over Aquinas and Cornerstone. In addition, he earned a spot
on the all-tournament team, marking the second consecutive week that he
has been so honored as he was a member of the all-tournament team at the
Wisconsin-Lutheran Tip-Off Tournament the week before.
A native of Grandville and a graduate of Tri-Unity Christian High
School, Foltice scored a game-high 18 points in a 97-66 victory over
Aquinas Friday. He then popped in 16 points in an 85-81 championship
game victory over Cornerstone Saturday including the game-winner with 20
seconds left in regulation.
On the week, Foltice was 12-of-25 from the field, 5-of-10 from
three-point range and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. He also
collected six rebounds, five assists, three steals and one blocked shot.
Foltice leads Calvin in scoring with an average of 16.5 points a game
and also has a team-leading eight three-point field goals on the year.
With its pair of victories this weekend, Calvin matched the
school-record win streak of 26 games established by the 1960-61 and
1961-62 Calvin teams while improving to 4-0 on the season.
Ranked number-one in the latest D3hoops.com poll, Calvin will host
non-conference rival Wheaton of Illinois Wednesday night at 7:30 pm at
the Calvin Fieldhouse.
