    Jason DeJonge named MIAA Player of the Week

    GRAND RAPIDS, MI - For the second time in his career, Calvin senior
    Jason DeJonge has been named MIAA Player of the Week in men's soccer.

    A native of Muskegon and a graduate of Western Michigan Christian High
    School, DeJonge scored a pair of game-winning goals last week to lead
    the Knights to conference victories over Albion and Hope.

    In a 3-1 victory over Albion Wednesday afternoon, DeJonge broke a 1-1
    tie with a goal five minutes into the second half. On Saturday, DeJonge
    scored all three Calvin goals in a 3-2 triumph over rival Hope including
    the game winner midway through the second half. Saturday's performance
    marked the second hat-trick of the year for DeJonge and the third of his
    Calvin career.

    DeJonge closed out the season and his collegiate career with Saturday's
    hat-trick performance, giving him a team-leading 21 goals and 42 points
    on the year. He also finished as the MIAA leader in goals scored in
    conference games with 13 while finishing second in points with 26. Over
    his three-year Calvin career, DeJonge collected 36 goals, five assists
    and 77 points.

    With Saturday's victory over Hope, Calvin secured its 30th winning
    campaign in the last 32 years as the Knights finished 10-9-1 overall.
    In conference play, Calvin finished fourth in the final MIAA standings
    with a 7-4-1 record. Since the MIAA began men's soccer in 1970, Calvin
    has recorded a won-loss record of 239-62-29 for a winning percentage of
    .768. Since its first year of varsity play in 1959, Calvin has an
    overall won-loss record of 391-209-56 for a winning percentage of .639.

    DeJonge was one of four Calvin seniors playing in their final collegiate
    contest Saturday against Hope. Also closing out their careers were
    seniors Marcus Byeman and Brian Douma of Redmond, Washington and Jon
    VerMerris of Western Michigan Christian High School. VerMerris is the
    youngest son of Calvin head coach Dave VerMerris.
