Dana Haan named MIAA Player of the Week

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Calvin College freshman Dana Haan has been named MIAA
Player of the Week in women's soccer.

A native of Lynden, Washington and a graduate of Lynden Christian High
School, Haan scored a goal in each of Calvin's two league victories this
past week as the Knights defeated Adrian 5-0 on Tuesday and Alma 3-1
Saturday afternoon. The pair of victories helped Calvin close out its
2000 campaign with a five-game win streak as the Knights finished 11-7
overall and in third place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic
Association (MIAA) with a 10-4 conference record.

A forward, Haan finished second on the Calvin squad in scoring with nine
goals, four assists and 22 points. In conference games, Haan finished
tied for fifth in goals (9) and tied for seventh in points (21).

With its 11 victories, Calvin reached the double-digit plateau in
victories for the 12th consecutive year. In 13 years of varsity play,
Calvin has never had a losing season and has an overall won-loss record
of 172-59-5 for a winning percentage of .739.
 
VOLLEYBALL

The MIAA Tournament pairings are set and Calvin will open first round
play Wednesday night at home against St.Mary's at 7:00 pm at the Calvin
Fieldhouse. Calvin is the second seed in the eight-team field.
Wednesday night will feature four first round matches with top-seeded
Hope hosting Olivet; third seeded Alma hosting Adrian and fourth-seeded
Kalamazoo hosting Albion.

Wednesday night's first round winners will advance to the MIAA
Tournament semifinals Friday night at the site of the highest remaining
seed. Friday night's site will also be home to the MIAA Tournament
Championship match Saturday. Friday night's semi's are scheduled for
5:30 and 8:00 pm while Saturday's championship tilt is slated for 7:00
pm.

The winner of the Calvin/St. Mary's match will face the Alma/Adrian
winner Friday at 5:30 while the Hope/Olivet winner will face the
Kalamazoo/Albion winner Friday at 8:00.

Calvin is the defending MIAA Tournament champion as the Knights defeated
Hope in the 1999 final 15-6, 9-15, 15-13, 11-15, 15-10.
