VOLLEYBALL
Calvin spilt its two opening matches in the Midwest Invitational Friday afternoon, downing Hanover 15-6, 15-11, 15-1 and falling to DePauw 15-10, 6-15, 15-5, 15-7.
Calvin took second place in its gold division pool and will play for 5th-8th place on
Saturday.
In Calvin's opening match victory over Hanover the Knights were led by seniors
Rhonda Volkers and Ann Wiersma. Volkers tallied 10 kills, 8 digs, 5 blocks and 2
aces. Wiersma chipped in with 12 digs, 10 kills and 2 blocks. Sophomores Melissa
Pell and Cassie Christopher each had 7 kills and 5 blocks. Junior setter Sara
Ahrenholz had 30 assists and 3 aces.
The Knights looked sluggish in their loss to DePauw with several missed serves
and inconsistent play. Volkers and Wiersma again led the Knights. Volkers had 17
kills, 9 digs and 7 blocks. Wiersma picked up 16 kills, 10 digs, 2 aces, and 2 blocks.
Ahrenholz dished out 43 assists and 12 digs.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday at 11:30 against Bluffton.
