Biography

Cheryl started working at Calvin (College) University in 1998 soon after graduating with her Bachelor's degree. She managed the educational programming in the Calvin Ecosystem Preserve as the preserve manager, worked as the lab manager and administrative assistant in the GEO Department including educational programming in the Dice Mineralogical Museum, and coordinated activities in the Music Office for almost 10 years as the administrative assistant and assistant to the chair.

Cheryl is a professional French horn player serving as principal horn and founding member of the Calvin Community Symphony. She plays in the Holland American Legion Band, and played for many years in the Jubal Brass with a ministry of performing in area churches and local venues to provide a worship experience. During and after college, she performed as a substitute in the horn section of the West Shore Symphony, now known as the West Michigan Symphony, in Muskegon.

Cheryl is married to Dan Hoogewind whom she met at Calvin in the Calvin Orchestra. They have two sons, Sam and Peter. Sam just graduated with a Computer Science degree from Calvin University in May of 2024. This continues a 3-generation tradition of attending Calvin University.

Cheryl is a member of the Assistants Advisory Group at Calvin, the leadership team of administrative assistants on campus.
