Christopher Holstege, MD

Career stories from a toxicologist

In 2004, a mysterious case emerged that puzzled international medical experts. Dr. Christopher “Chris” Holstege was asked to review the case and offer his opinion. His subsequent email with proposed diagnosis led him on an unexpected path with international ramifications. Chris has been integrally engaged with numerous high profile cases associated with criminal poisoning, substance use, and weapons of mass destruction. He will speak briefly on select high profile cases with which he has been engaged and that are known in the public domain or that have been fully adjudicated, the challenges associated with those cases, and the role of multidisciplinary teams to assure the correct diagnosis is made and that justice is brought to the victim(s). He will also speak of the challenges faced by higher education threat assessment teams and the role of the universities in keeping students safe in an ever dangerous and broken world.
