Calvin will modify the normal calendar for fall semester 2020. The goal is to reduce travel to and from campus and avoid bringing in large crowds for major events, lowering the chance of exposing the campus community to outside sources of viral infection.
First-year Student Move-in (tentative)
The move-in dates for on-campus housing will vary between first-year students and returning students, and also based on any specialized orientation programs or leadership roles. Specific move-in dates and times will be communicated as the summer progresses. Move-in times will be expanded in order to reduce congestion and support physical distancing. As much as possible, students should limit the number of family members who help them move in, preferably being assisted by only one or two others. We expect to provide more information about assignments for move-in dates and times by the end of July, when students receive their residence hall assignment email.
Fall Semester (undergraduate)
Beginning of Semester
Fall semester undergraduate classes will start on Tuesday, September 1.
Academic Advising / Fall Break
Three days have been set aside for academic advising and a break: October 8, October 21, and November 3. The university will remain open, but classes will not be held. Faculty will meet with students for advising. Students are encouraged to find ways to relax and refresh without traveling, so as to avoid the need for testing and possible quarantine upon return to campus.
End of Semester & Exams
In-person instruction will end prior to Thanksgiving, with the last class day on Tuesday, November 24. Remote instruction begins on Monday, November 30; final exams begin (remotely) on December 10; and the semester ends Wednesday, December 16.
Winter Term & Spring Semester
Currently we expect that Interim will begin on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, and the spring semester will begin on Monday, February 1, 2021.
