The law known as Title IX requires gender equity in every educational program that receives federal funding. It was first adopted in 1972 and has been added to many times since then. Title IX is about far more than just equal opportunities in sports. The law addresses access to higher education, career education, education for pregnant and parenting students, employment, learning environment, math and science, standardized testing and technology, and sexual harassment.

Calvin College is firmly committed to providing all individuals with an environment that is free of sexual harassment and sexual violence. As recommended by the Department of Education, Calvin College implements preventive education programs for sexual violence and misconduct. The Sexual Assault Prevention Team (SAPT) and the Sexuality Series are the main focus for this campus programming. Please see Safer Spaces for information about resources, policies, and procedures for responding to misconduct.
