TRANSITIONS Orientation is for new students entering Calvin for the Interim term (January) or spring semester. Activities and creative workshops will highlight the range of opportunities available to you at Calvin.

  • Spring orientation (Transitions II): January 30–31, 2020

For Interim students, TRANSITIONS I is a two-day orientation program on January 6–7. Sessions include meeting an advisor to confirm your class schedule, learning about opportunities at Calvin, hearing from current faculty members, and a Grand Rapids outing. Family members are welcome.

To help you make lasting connections, orientation continues through the month with informal Friday lunches.

For spring semester students, TRANSITIONS II is a two-day orientation program on January 30–31, 2020. This includes meeting an advisor to confirm your class schedule, learning about opportunities at Calvin, and a Grand Rapids outing.

Moving-in

Planning to live in the residence halls or Knollcrest East apartments? Interim students may move in January 6 between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Spring students may move in January 30, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Stop by the Campus Involvement and Leadership office as part of the housing check-in process.

Orientation Costs

The fee for TRANSITIONS I or II is $150. Up to two adult family members may attend the parent programming track for free. This will be charged to your student account. All meals during TRANSITIONS are provided.

  • What to expect

    Calvin's orientation programs have three objectives:

    • To introduce you to Calvin's purpose, people, and programs
    • To help ensure your smooth transition to university
    • To prepare you academically for your years at Calvin

    You will be covering following information:

    • Reformed, Liberal Arts University—what it means that Calvin is Reformed and Liberal Arts.
    • Agents of Renewal—what it means that God is renewing all things.
    • Doing God’s Work in God’s World—what God is calling us to as we learn and as we serve.

    Take care of practical details:

    • Meet with an advisor and confirm your classes
    • Get your student ID
    • Register your vehicle

  • Before you arrive

    Steps to complete before you arrive:

    1. Register yourself and your family members using your applicant status page or by calling (616) 526-8507.
    2. Pay your enrollment deposit, if you haven't already done so.
    3. Look for a confirmation email in your Calvin email account from the Campus Involvement and Leadership Office.
    4. Print out driving directions and a campus map.

    Checking-in

    Upon arrival, follow the road signs to the Covenant Fine Arts Center parking lot. Make your way to the Commons Annex Building to check in, recieve your personalized schedule, and a resource packet.
