About

The International Student Association Committee is a student led committee that partners with the ISDO to support the international student body in their cultural adjustment by hosting social events that give opportunity for fun and fellowship on campus and Grand Rapids, coordinate transportation for grocery store trips, and plan programs that allow students to share their culture with the larger community.

ISAC qualifications

Any student with the following characteristics may apply for the International Student Association Committee:

  • Has citizenship outside the US or Canada; US or Canadian citizens that have had significant international experience
  • Has interest in and commitment to helping new students make a smooth and successful adjustment to Calvin
  • Shows a willingness to exercise gifts of creativity, hospitality, and service
  • Is committed to working on a tight knit team
  • Demonstrates confidence and maturity in interpersonal relationships
  • Strives to manifest Christian commitment in thought, word, and deed
  • Has a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Maintains full-time student status at Calvin for the fall and spring semesters of the year applying. Fulfills the university's eligibility requirements for participation in campus activities as reflected in the Student Handbook

Leadership positions

  • President
    • Oversees all ISAC members.
    • Helps ISAC members feel encouraged and part of the team.
    • Responsible for overall vision and planning for the year.
    • Meets weekly with Assistant Dean of International Students and ISAC VP to plan events, meetings, and ISAC training.
    • Sets agenda for weekly ISAC meetings.
    • Leads meetings once a week and delegates responsibilies.
    • Contact and meet with all the student orgs for ISAC events once a month.
    • Touches base and updates ISAC members via emails.
    • Ultimately responsible to make sure that everything is done.


    Qualifications for ISAC President

    • Junior or Senior in 2016-17
    • On ISAC before
    • International citizenship or significant international background
  • Vice President
    • Student org intermediary (contact student orgs).
    • Meet with each student org about ISAC events once a month.
    • Assists and coordinates with President.
    • Leads meetings in the absence of the president.
    • Meets weekly with Assistant Dean of International Students and President to plan events, meetings and training.
    • Meet with Advisor and President before ISAC meeting
  • Member
    • Attends training sessions for ISAC members.
    • Attends weekly ISAC meetings.
    • Helps plan and implement ISAC events.
    • Attends all ISAC events.
  • Secretary Treasurer
    • Track income and expenses in Excel document.
    • Give financial report when necessary or requested.
    • Be available and/or collect the money from any event or activity that involves the collection of money (Meijer Runs, Banquet, WFF, etc.).
    • Take minutes during meetings and make sure to keep the Google Drive updated.
    • Meet with advisor at least once a semester to update them on finances.
  • Marketing Coordinator
    • Send out emails and sign-up sheets for each of the different events (Meijer Runs, dinners, coat runs, etc.).
    • Take pictures for each of the different events.
    • Be active on social media (Facebook, Instagram etc.) - upload pictures, post announcements and polls, etc.
    • Collaborate with ISAC members on event planning activities.
  • Event Coordinator
    • Coordinate supplies for events.
    • Collaborate and work with other ISAC members on events such as World Food Festival, Christmas Banquet, and dinners.
    • Keeping and managing inventories.
    • In charge or AV equipment rentals.
  • Logistics Coordinator
    • Manage rentals of vans and buses from Physical Plant or Off-campus). Communicate with the president for certain big events (e.g. Christmas Banquet, Tubing).
      a. Know & count the number of people that go on the trip
      b. Communicate with drivers after they are done to make sure the vans have been returned
    • Assign Drivers Contact drivers prior to each time they are scheduled.
      a. Make sure to have some small change
    • Coordinate with Marketing Coordinator to ensure that emails are sent out.
    • Arranges rotations among ISAC members who have to be present for each of the runs.
  • ISAC Van Drivers
    • Not required to attend ISAC meetings
    • Compensation will be provided
    • Drive for Meijer Runs and Coat Runs
