Sexual harassment awareness and prevention training
Calvin College is committed to creating a learning, working and living environment that is fair, respectful and free from harassment. The human resources office requires sexual harassment awareness and prevention training to all staff members. Calvin is committed to ridding our campus of sexual harassment and we encourage all faculty and staff members to discuss harassment concerns with the human resources office. New staff orientation (NSO)
NSO is an orientation session that happens every 2 months for new staff. It is designed to introduce or reacquaint staff members with the institutional identity and mission of the college. The sessions are also designed to give new employees ample opportunities to connect, learn and grow here at Calvin. Presenters from across the campus will spend time with new staff talking about various offices, policies and procedures for getting things done at Calvin. Visit the most current NSO schedule. Cultural competency professional development
Theme IV of Calvin’s Strategic Plan – Strengthen Calvin’s Pursuit of Diversity and Inclusion – identifies “Deepen understanding within the Calvin community of diversity, inclusive excellence, cultural competency, and global awareness” as a goal for the whole college community. Strategies to accomplish this goal include: Calvin will create a set of core diversity, anti-racism, and intercultural competency workshops for all staff, faculty, administrators, and board of trustee (BOT) members; and each Calvin staff person, faculty member, administrator, and BOT member will be expected to participate in at least one of the core workshops annually.
In partnership with the college’s diversity and inclusion professionals, human resources provides training to various employee groups toward the end of “Deepening understanding within the Calvin community of diversity, inclusive excellence, cultural competency, and global awareness.” The trainings are informed by the goals identified in both the Strategic Plan and the From Every Nation (FEN) document.
Lunch and Learns for Administrative Professionals
The human resources office is committed to provide training outlets for office assistants across campus. To do this, we offer monthly Lunch and Learns for office assistants during the academic year. Sessions topics fall within three categories:
