Temporary hiring process
Are you interested in working in a temporary, short-term or project-based role at Calvin? Offices on campus periodically have need for short-term temporary staff. If you wish to be considered for these positions, please contact email@example.com. You will be required to provide a resume and detail the length of time you are available. You are encouraged to create a profile on Calvin’s jobs website.
Do you need to hire a temporary or short-term employee?
First, review the definition of a temporary employee: Temporary or short-term employees are designed to fill short-term needs only and may not work more than 1000 hours per year. These hours can work out to approximately six months of full-time work or one year of part-time work. Temporary employment is not designed to lead to or be promise of full-time employment.
Secondly, we need a little information from you.
Do you need help finding a temporary employee?
The human resources office keeps a short list of people available to work. If we cannot locate a suitable fit for your needs, we will advertise the opening as if we were hiring a regular employee.
To get the process started, complete the short term employment request form, leaving the “name” field blank. Obtain the proper signatures and forward to human resources for processing. We will contact you to best understand your needs and outline the process and timeline.
Once we find a suitable fit, please allow up to 10 business days to process the new employee. Temporary employees need to complete an application online, undergo a criminal background check and fill out tax and human resources forms.
Do you already know who you want to hire?
To get the process started, complete the short term employment request form. This form requires authorizing signatures from the employee’s supervisor, department chair/budget officer and divisional vice president. The completed form should be sent to human resources.
Please allow up to 10 business days for the processing of a new employee. The supervisor should communicate to the employee that the new employee will need to complete an application, undergo a criminal background check and fill out tax and human resources forms before they begin employment.
- The human resources office will notify the supervisor once all of the employee's paperwork has been completed and the background check has been cleared. Employees can NOT start working until you have received approval from the human resources office.
