Subject: Mandated return for Vienna program students
Date: March 12, 2020

Dear students and families of Vienna program students,

As you probably have seen by now, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have escalated Austria to a Level 3 designation, which is our trigger point requiring students to return to the U.S. Thus, we are now mandating all students to return to the U.S. The students booked their travel independently, so they will have to make their own flight adjustments, but the Travel Office at Calvin may be able to answer questions. Students may face additional screening upon arrival as they enter and may be required to self-quarantine for two weeks. This quarantine will need to occur at the student’s home, not at Calvin University campus.

We are dedicated to helping students complete their coursework and are exploring several options for helping students complete their term.As the University of Vienna has already moved to online instruction, we are confident that we will be able to assist students in their course completion. Professor Corey Roberts, in the German Department at Calvin University, will help you to figure out the coursework.

We are still working on the financial implications of these changes and hope to be able to provide answers within the next week. We understand that this is a huge disappointment to many of you, but your health and safety remains our top concern. We ask for your patience and your prayers as we work through this unprecedented situation.
