This program is designed for high school students interested in learning more about the sports communication industry through the lens of a sports information office.
Participants will learn about how a sports information office produces content for its website, social media sites, and broadcast media. Participants will also learn how a sports information office as well as other public relations offices in the sports media industry work with media outlets to publicize teams and athletes while continuing to build an organization’s brand. Participants will also learn how statistics and historical record keeping are vital to the sports media industry.
Additionally, participants will learn about sports communication careers. In-class interviews with sports communication professionals may be conducted. By the end of this program, participants will have a foundation in understanding how public relations careers in the sports industry operate.
