October 4-6, 2018
Calvin College
Grand Rapids, Michigan

The Fall 2018 Biennial Meeting of the Conference on Faith and History Undergraduate Student Conference will gather together at Calvin College, one of the organization’s earliest sponsoring institutions. The regular conference will follow from October 4-6, and undergraduate students are encouraged to stay for the entire event.

Student papers on any subject are encouraged. The theme of our meeting in Grand Rapids is how the study of the past—in all its fullness and complexity—might bring meaning within our institutions, neighborhoods, classrooms, and congregations, and how it might promote health and stability for our democracy in an ever-shrinking and even more dangerous world. However, we understand that students will be submitting proposals from the papers they have written for classes this year and thus will span a range of topics.

Please submit a proposal that includes a title, a 250 word overview of the paper and advisor contact information (if possible). Individual paper and/or complete session proposals should be sent to: Eric Washington ( or to Lisa Clark Diller (

The undergraduate conference will feature a plenary session on October 3 by Jemar Tisby.

Decisions will be made on or before May 15, 2018

Plenary Speakers at the regular conference will include:

Beth Allison Barr (Baylor University, Conference on Faith & History)
Margaret Bendroth (
Congregational Library & Archives, Boston)
Elisabeth Lasch-Quinn (
Syracuse University)
Robert Orsi (
Northwestern University)
