Dr. VanderLeest obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1995. While working on his doctoral degree he was a graduate research assistant at the Center for Reliable and High-Performance Computing at the University of Illinois at Urbana. He has been a graduate teaching assistant at Michigan Technological University. He has participated in the Outstanding Student Summer Program in Engineering and Science at Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, NM.
VanderLeest has consulted with Tandem Computers, Inc. in the area of performance evaluation; Smiths Aerospace in the areas of digital design, software engineering, intranet web development, and ASIC design; for Laser Alignment in areas of laser and direction control; and for GE Aviation in the areas of safety-critical avionics hardware and software. He is currently a partner and Vice-President of Research & Development at DornerWorks, Ltd, a company started by one of his former students, specializing in embedded systems engineering for safety-critical domains. He is co-founder of squishLogic LLC.
