Li (Mary) Ma
Dr. Mary Ma is a senior research fellow at the Henry Institute for the Study of Christianity and Politics, Calvin College (Grand Rapids, MI). She is currently conducting research related to Christianity in China under a Templeton grant through the Center for the Study of Chinese Religion and Society at Purdue University. Ma received her B.A. from Wuhan University of Technology in English Literature, her Masters degree from the University of Oxford, and PhD from Cornell University, both in Sociology.
Dr. Ma has written numerous articles and book chapters on religion, social change, Chinese thought, and various other topics. Most recently she co-wrote (with Jim Li) “Remaking the Civic Space: The rise of Unregistered Protestantism and Civic Engagement in Urban China,” published in Christianity in Chinese Public Life (Palgrave), and is pursuing publication of a book co-written with Jin Li on Chinese Protestantism.
