Originally from Ohio, I spent nearly 20 years living in China. I initially went to China as an undergraduate student, but then taught English for a few years before turning to research. I love to travel and hate how COVID has largely kept me homebound for much of the last two years. I have two young children and enjoy coaching my son's sports teams and taking my daughter to the numerous playgrounds of central Ohio.
Research and scholarship
My research focuses on the history of Chinese Christianity. In particular, I have published one book and edited another on the history of Protestantism in Southeast China. This area of China is the ancestral home to many Overseas Chinese, especially in Southeast Asia, which has led to my interest in Chinese diasporas. My current research interests include how Chinese Christian history is being remembered and celebrated today.
