Campus Cleaning Standards
Cleanliness and hygiene are everyone’s job and responsibility. The entire university community must work together to keep others healthy and safe.
Facilities provides daily cleaning and disinfecting of classrooms, breakrooms, bathrooms, classrooms, buildings and all public spaces. Facilities provides disinfecting wipes, or sprays for computer labs, classrooms and public spaces for individuals to clean surfaces regularly.
Academic Support (classrooms, labs, library)
In addition to the routine cleaning and disinfecting daily, disinfectant wipes and spray bottles of cleaning solution are provided for use between facilities cleanings.
Offices and Departmental Spaces
Disinfectant wipes and spray bottles of cleaning solution are provided in every departmental common area and near copy machines.
Faculty and staff should eliminate any shared-use coffee pots and the practice of sharing food in common areas. They should also disinfect the handles of departmental microwaves, coffee pots, and refrigerators after each use.
Faculty and staff should clean and disinfect high-touch, shared surfaces regularly (buttons, door handles, counters, workstations, keyboards, telephones, etc.).
The facilities team cleans common area restrooms once daily and disinfect high-touch areas three times daily, seven days a week. The team cleans and disinfects residential common spaces, lounges and high-touch surfaces daily.
In suites, apartments or rooms with private baths, students should clean their spaces with disinfectant at least weekly. The facilities team will provide supplies and guidance.
Residential life staff conducts frequent health and safety inspections, including bathrooms, and requires students to clean and disinfect their spaces.
Kitchen spaces in apartments must be cleaned by the residents and reviewed in the health and safety inspections.
Tables countertops and high-touch guest areas are sanitized a minimum of three times daily. Food contact areas are sanitized at least once per hour and logged by a manager.
Student Support (student center, recreation, meeting rooms)
All student support spaces, and meeting rooms are cleaned a minimum of once daily by facilities staff. High-use public spaces, such as Johnny’s, are disinfected at a minimum once daily by facilities staff.
Campus recreation & wellness staff disinfect all equipment during every two-hour shift; users are required to sanitize equipment after each use. Campus recreation & wellness staff deep-clean and disinfect all recreation spaces and equipment once a week, in addition to the routine daily cleaning.
Meeting rooms and fitness centers also have disinfectant wipes and/or bottles of disinfecting mist available for users of the space and assigned staff members to use.
Athletics Facilities (tentative guidelines)
All athletics facilities currently in use are cleaned and disinfected a minimum of once daily by the facilities team. Athletic trainers disinfect locker rooms after each workout. Environmental services staff do a thorough cleaning of the spaces in the evenings.
Athletes must disinfect equipment immediately after use with their personal towels and the spray bottle at their racks. After each session, coaches clean the equipment at every rack. At the end of each day the performance staff does one more thorough cleaning of the weight room equipment, nutrition stations and offices.
Nutrition station cups are sanitized in the dishwasher. Performance staff clean and sanitize the weight rooms, nutrition stations and offices at the end of each day.
