|Subject: Employee Safe Return Update
Date: September 4, 2020
Dear faculty and staff,
I hope this weekend you will take time to pause and reflect on the significant milestone we reached with our students completing their first week of living and learning on campus this fall semester. You have each played a role in getting us to this mile marker. We know it has not been an easy road, and we realize this road will surely have its bumps along the way; you likely experienced a few even this week.
We wanted to take a moment to say thank you for doing this work alongside us—when we are all working together, we put ourselves in the best position possible to stay safe and healthy. So, even though our active COVID-19 positive numbers are low, we must not let our guard down. So, thank you for staying the course with us and continuing to both model for and encourage your students to practice our community’s daily health and safety protocols: wearing masks, practicing social distancing, and practicing good hygiene.
Now, as you consider those bumps in the road that you came across this past week or perhaps those you saw your students experiencing, what can we help with? Please let us know of any questions or concerns you have after a week of being back together in our living and learning community. Contact ResponseTeam@calvin.edu or call 616-526-6657, and we will try to address your question or concern or direct you to the appropriate person who can. The more we know, the better we can serve you and your students.
Finally, we wanted to remind you of a few helpful resources that we put together this week that we hope you will find helpful.
Resources added this week:
- A campus COVID-dashboard with metrics related to testing and cases is now available on our Safe Return website. Please stop back to the dashboard regularly, as it will be updated every weekday throughout the semester.
- A symptom algorithm (decision making flow chart) that our Health Services team at Calvin adapted from the Kent County Health Department is also now available. This algorithm provides a way for faculty, staff, and students to work through many complex pandemic-related questions.
- A story documenting Calvin’s six-month journey to safely return to campus for fall 2020 is now on the News & Stories website.
Thank you again for partnering with us on this journey. We walk this road together.
