Subject: A Stern Reminder as the Academic Year Begins
Date: September 1, 2020

Dear Students,

As we kick off the academic year, I’m writing to remind you of the stringent guidelines in place to protect our campus community. We know that our students desire to continue to live and learn on our Grand Rapids campus.  We are counting on each member of the Calvin University community to do their part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and help us stay open this fall.

Please know that we will be taking a hard line on conduct for those engaging in events and activities that run counter to our safe return plans and our Love Your Neighbor covenant. Every Calvin University student and employee is expected to wear a mask when indoors and in congested outdoor areas, maintain at least 6 feet of social distance, practice good hygiene, and complete the #CampusClear app daily.

Plainly stated, hosting or attending gatherings and parties where social distancing is not possible and masks are not worn represent violations of the Calvin University code of conduct; if you don’t abide by these rules, you forfeit your right to study on campus and will face disciplinary action. We owe it to each other to do everything we can to manage the risk and preserve the health of our community. If you see something that concerns you, say something. When students become aware of other students living on or off-campus who are not complying with the University and/or local public health guidelines and expectations, they can report concerns here.

Each of us has a responsibility to look out for the interests of others—to love our neighbors well.  Together, we can do hard things.

Welcome to the 2020-2021 academic year!
