The World as God's Creation

A city against a mountain backdrop

Module Description

For Christians, a fundamental distinction in being is between Creator (the triune God) and creation (everything else). Apart from theology, then, the various academic disciplines can be said to deal mainly with creation. Christian faith confesses that the creation, which our academic disciplines study, depends upon the power and love of God the creator. This course focuses on clarifying the core theological notion of the world as creation and considering the light it sheds upon the work of higher education.

In this module, you will:

  • Analyze the biblical theme of the world as creation and God as Creator in selected biblical and creedal texts
  • Examine theological explorations of the central features of Christian belief in creation
  • Encounter applications of the doctrine of creation in the work of scholars outside of theology
  • Develop ideas of how belief in God as Creator and the world as creation might inform your work
