Engaging Responsibly with Scripture

A man studying the Bible

Module Description

The Bible carries authority for Christian educators, but it is not a collection of handy verses related to all disciplines of the modern university. How, then, does it speak to our work? This course focuses on how the authority of Scripture relates to higher education and how to engage Scripture responsibly. We encounter different biblical genres, think about principles for interpreting the Bible, and look at how the authority of Scripture can be relevant across disciplines.

In this module, you will:
  • Compare treatments of a biblical theme across a range of genres of biblical literature
  • Identify key principles and safeguards articulated in confessional and scholarly treatments of biblical authority
  • Evaluate applications of Reformed hermeneutical approaches in the work of scholars in disciplines outside of theology
  • Strengthen your understanding of how a biblical theme relates to your discipline
