What to Expect

Learning Sessions

Individual Difference, Job Attitudes, and Motivation – what’s the connection?

During this session a Calvin Business Professor will start to unpack the great diversity of God’s prize creation (us), how our differences influence the attitudes we bring to our work (e.g., employee engagement), and the resulting impact on motivation and job performance

Marketing: Behind the Scenes

During this session a Calvin Business Professor will lead the group in an activity to explore some of the decisions a marketer must make. Students will work together to describe marketing actions that will reach a specific target market.

Business as a Christian Calling

During this session a Calvin Business Professor will discuss Business as a Christian calling.

Participants will also have multiple opportunities to connect and have casual conversations about life as a student and life as a business professional with influential women leaders from the community.

Human-centered design projects

Student participants will come alongside professors and local business leaders and thinkers to learn and apply “human-centered design” processes, an innovative and state-of-the-art business discipline of generating solutions to problems and opportunities through observation, understanding, synthesizing, and realizing.

Students will conduct market research, develop new product and service concepts, validate them in the market, and create strategic launch and marketing plans during this fast-paced, real-world learning opportunity. They will present their findings at the conclusion of the institute.

You will be staying in the dorms throughout your time at Calvin, along with your mentors and other Institute attendees. Calvin will provide sheets, a blanket, and a towel during your stay. You should, however, make sure you have any other items you will need for your two night stay, including a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, alarm clock, umbrella, fan, and the like.

We will be providing each of your meals, beginning with dinner on Wednesday, and ending with lunch on Friday. Please ensure you let us know of any food allergies on the release form.

During your time at Calvin you will be participating in a few workshops and activities related to Passport, which is a program for incoming Calvin students. Some activities might include a chapel service, campus tour, and a pop scholars show! This is just to note that the campus will be filled with activity while you are here – we hope you enjoy it.
