Join this session of BIO295 seminar to learn about the controversies of food quality, provision, and mass incarceration throughout the country. Guest Speaker: Joshua Sbicca- Colorado State University

The crisis of mass incarceration offers new opportunities to understand food justice activism. While activists are working to address inequities within prisons, such as food quality, dietary health, and food labor, there are also efforts to use food to intervene at the point of reentry. This talk will discuss food justice activist’s linking of economic, racial, and restorative justice and urban agriculture to mutual aid strategies that support formerly incarcerated people and their communities to heal from the trauma of mass incarceration.

We encourage you to join the seminar for this interesting, controversial topic! Contact Erika Purcell-Williams (eap2@calvin.edu) with any further questions or concerns.
