The Power of We

Save the date for Q Commons 2018!

Hospitality in its essence is a relationship. A relationship between a host and a guest. Of giving and receiving. In the days of the early church, hospitality meant inviting a stranger into your home and making them feel welcomed by providing a meal, shelter and safety.

In today’s culture, it is easier to think of what it is that separates us. But what if we were known by our giving and our receiving instead of our self-preservation and taking? What if we practiced this Christian virtue of hospitality as a response to our polarized society? On October 25th we will come together and hear from speakers on a variety of topics to learn how to better practice hospitality and seek the common good.

When we practice hospitality, we let others know that there is a seat for them at the table. Hospitality is listening. It is asking questions. It is finding common ground. It is not us vs. them. It is The Power of We.

Here's the lineup of speakers for the evening:

• Bob Goff (national speaker), New York Times Bestselling author of Love Does and Everybody Always and founder of Love Does, a non-profit that operates schools and pursues justice for children in conflict areas
• Jo Saxton (national speaker), author, leadership coach, church planter and visionary who empowers women, challenges societal stereotypes and helps people discover who they truly are by seeing themselves the way God sees them
• Scott Harrison (national speaker) is the founder and CEO of charity: water, a non-profit that has mobilized over one million donors around the world to fund 28,000 water projects in 26 countries that will serve more than 8.2 million people
• Michael Gulker (local speaker) is the president of the Colossian Forum, a non-profit organization that equips leaders to transform messy cultural conflicts into opportunities for spiritual growth and witness, and desires to aid Christians in engaging today's divisive cultural issues
• Skot Welch (local speaker) is the founder of Global Bridgebuilders, a firm that believes that inclusion is a business discipline that should be leveraged acress the entire enterprise, and desires to bring together the perfect blend of people and process to any organization
• Dana Doll (local speaker) has a passion for helping refugees and serves as the executive director of Treetops Collective, a non-profit organization that connects refugee women people and opportunities so they can flourish for generations to come
