Wilderness Orientation: North Channel Kayaking and Climbing

Students will embark on a self-supported sea kayak through the North Channel. This trip includes camping on granite islands and peninsulas, climbing and rappelling, and gaining skills to live out of a kayak for a week.

Passport or equivalent is required.

Itinerary

Day 1—Trip Orientation, skills clinic, and team building
Day 2—Trip departs for North Channel of Ontario; Road Trip; Camp in Serpent Bay
Day 3—Paddle School and eight Mile Open Water Paddle near the Turnbull Islands; Island Camping, Rock Jumping
Day 4—Six Mile Open Water Paddle through the Whalesback Channel; Island Exploration and Rock Jumping
Day 5—Rock Climbing and Rappelling on a 60 foot face that drops into the North Channel; Solo Experience
Day 6—12 Mile Open Water Paddle on Lake Huron
Day 7—Eight Mile Open Water Paddle to the Benjamin Islands
Day 8—Sunrise Paddle; Return to Calvin College by 7:00 p.m.
