Targeting Chromatin Remodeling Complexes to Improve Cancer Therapy - Renier Velez-Cruz, Midwestern University
The future of precision or personalized medicine is based on identifying specific vulnerabilities that can be targeted in a specific cancer. Sequencing the genome of cancers has uncovered that chromatin remodelers are mutated at very high frequencies in a variety of cancer types. Our research has shown that these remodeling complexes play a role in the DNA repair and that inactivation of these complexes render cells sensitive to a variety of chemotherapeutic agents. Knowing how these complexes work in DNA repair can help us chose the type of chemotherapeutic agents that can be effective against cancers with mutations in these genes.
