What a purchase! One hundred years ago, the Detroit Institute of Art (DIA) acquired a painting by Vincent Van Gogh, his Self-Portrait from 1887. The DIA was the first public museum in the United States to purchase a Van Gogh. And they are celebrating!
Titled, Van Gogh in America, the DIA has brought together 74 authentic Van Gogh works from around the world. Only at the DIA will you be able to experience and discover the fascinating story of America’s introduction to this iconic artist through a self-guided tour. For those with a smartphone, an audio tour is also an option. You’ll also enjoy a full-length, illustrated catalogue with essays by the exhibition curator and Van Gogh scholars.
Prior to our ticketed event on Friday, October 28, we will lunch at the nearby Hilton Garden Inn and hear from two Van Gogh enthusiasts—Calvin Art professor Craig Hanson who is teaching a CALL course on Van Gogh and author Don Postema who uses the art of Van Gogh in his book, Space for God.
Meal choices include a Grilled Vegetable Wrap with field greens and hummus or a California Turkey Club with Swiss cheese, Applewood smoked bacon, avocado, tomato, mixed greens, and sun-dried tomato aioli served on artisan bread. All sandwiches are served with freshly cooked kettle chips, a dill pickle spear, fruit infused water, and choice of dessert.

8:00 a.m. Board the bus at the Prince Conference Center. Park in Parking Lot #16.
8:15 a.m. Bus departs from the Prince Conference Center to travel to Detroit. There will be a rest stop along the way.
11:15 a.m. Arrive at the Hilton Garden Inn for presentations and lunch
1:15 p.m. Board the bus for the DIA
2:00 p.m. Ticketed viewing of Van Gogh in America
4:00 p.m. Board the bus for return trip home
7:00 p.m. Approximate arrival time at Prince Conference Center
For the bus drive to Detroit and back, we’ll have a snack bag for everyone, but feel free to take along something more substantial if needed.

50% refund for cancellations made 16 days or more before an event.
No refund will be issued 1-15 days before the event.
For any trips filled and with a waitlist, a refund is permitted minus an administrative fee.
