Leonard VanderZee, this year's Emo Van Halsema Fellowship recipient, will give a presentation on the Lord's Supper on Monday, January 7, 2019, at 3:30 pm in the Meeter Center Lecture Hall, which is located in the lobby of the Hekman Library. Refreshments will be available.

From Gracious Gift to Fearful Decision: The Trajectory of Calvin's Theology and Practice of the Lord's Supper in Dutch Reformed Churches.

Calvin's Eucharistic theology, as opposed to Zwingli's, is characterized by a profound and joyful participation in Christ through the gift of his true glorified humanity in the bread and wine. This presentation will consider some factors by which a more Zwinglian focus on the communicant's faith and commitment came to predominate in the Dutch Reformed tradition, despite the clearly Calvinist statements of its confessions.
