Calvin Architectural Tour (Full)

Join Dr. Craig Hanson for a guided architectural walking tour around Calvin's extraordinary campus

This event is has reached capacity and registration is closed.

In Calvin’s original 1959 master plan for the Knollcrest Campus, architect William Fyfe envisioned the campus as a “partially-cloistered academic world” for a community of Christian scholars. While stopping at various sites of interest, art history professor Dr. Craig Hanson will provide a primer on the architectural legacy of Calvin's campus from Fyfe's original plan to his implementation of an organic form of Modernism.

Moving forward in time, Dr. Hanson will also highlight subsequent layers of construction on campus, explaining Calvin's current strategies which both honor and update that mid-century vision of a learning environment to incorporate today's academic, sustainability, and hospitality goals.

Registration: This is a free event, but advance registration is requested so we can keep our maximum group size to about 25 people. The tour group will meet in the Covenant Fine Arts Center west lobby (by the box office).

Activity level: Participants should expect to walk and stand for about 60 minutes around campus with a few stairs to climb along the way.
