MLK Young Leaders Weekend is a three day retreat designed to explore the philosophy of Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement in effecting positive social change.
The Program
This program is geared towards equipping young leaders to lead effectively in every aspect of their lives:
- In their local community/neighborhood
- In their high school
- In their church
- Among their peers and friends
- And, influencing the generation under them
Participants will spend 3 days living on Calvin’s campus at the Prince Conference Center (hotel) with Pre-College Programs coordinator Carena Gang, and Pre-College Programs student ambassadors. In addition, they will participate in workshops focusing on leadership development and finding ones’ purpose, travel to the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit, visit a local church, a community service-learning project, attend Calvin’s January Series segment on MLK Day and enjoy campus life!
If you are a student interested in bettering your community, yourself and developing your leadership skills, the MLK Young Leaders program is for you!
Who can apply?
9th–12th graders of all ethnic backgrounds.
